An Unorthodox Location for GTA6

Apart from being an interesting setting, I feel it would be nice for us to explore a semi-realistic location that isn’t based on the same old cities we’ve seen before.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Rockstar has confirmed that development has indeed started on Grand Theft Auto 6. A sequel to one of the most successful games in history… seemed unlikely didn’t it?

Unsurprisingly the rumour mill has since turned to where should this new installment be set? Will they return to Vice City? Will it be a new city? What about a European city? Then of course there are the usual suggestions, London, Paris, Rome, Berlin etc.

I’ve been thinking about the possibilities myself and came up with a much more unusual suggestion, Inverness. I know what you are thinking, “Inverness isn’t a City” well in fact it is. One of the Seven Cities of Scotland. Surely though if they were to pick one of the seven; Glasgow, Edinburgh or even Aberdeen would be more likely?

Let me explain.

One of the main arguments for doing a famous city is that they are recognisable to everyone; Everyone knows that the Eiffel Tower is in Paris and that Central Park is in New York. Inverness doesn’t have anything immediately recognisable to the masses in it, but it is right next to the most famous Loch of all, Loch Ness. I mean, who hasn’t heard of Loch Ness and tales of the monster that lurks there.

Nessie herself doesn’t need to make an appearance in the game but having Loch Ness as a back drop is captivating enough on its own.

With the Loch, City of Inverness and the surrounding area you have a nice variety of landscapes to make different areas distinct from one another. Although Rockstar will have to stretch reality a little thin if they want to include the Sun in the weather cycle. Sunshine is a rare thing that far north!

Apart from being an interesting setting I feel it would be nice for us to explore a semi-realistic location that isn’t based on the same old cities we’ve seen before. To my limited knowledge there isn’t a game set in Inverness yet, perhaps in 3+ years time we’ll get our first…
