Having liberated Iki island from the talons of the Eagle Tribe, I can’t help but think about what comes next. Of course, I have already made some suggestions for what could come next; You can find those here. The pertinent question, now that I’ve finished the Iki island expansion, is; “what do I want to come next?”
In Ghost of Tsushima Jin Sakai goes on quite the journey. In the face of an overwhelming foe he struggles with the legacy of his father’s death, his adopted father’s expectations of him and his own failures. On Iki island he comes to terms with the legacy of his and his father’s actions there, as well as his death. It brings a huge amount of closure to his character and if his journey were to end here then, I couldn’t complain about it too much. It is a satisfying way for his story to conclude.
However, having said all that, I don’t want it to end here. I want to see Jin’s story continue. Now that Jin has laid to rest his troubles; With his father figures and his qualms about leaving behind his life as a Samurai. I want to see him leave Japan behind as well. I’d love to see him and Yuna travel to China. Having them try to stop the Mongols’ Yuan Dynasty from destroying the Southern Song Dynasty.
It’s a setting full of promise. A mixture of exciting environments with cities full of people to meet. Not to mention loads of space for shrines, ancient armour sets and all of the open world activities you can think of. Plenty for the wind to guide you towards. Whatever follows for Sucker Punch’s franchise, I hope the wind continues to be central to its design. What a stunning game Ghost of Tsushima is; Just look at these screenshots!
