Update: As per his request, Cody Rhodes has been released by WWE. WWE released the following statement

WWE has come to terms on the release of Cody Rhodes as of today, May 22, 2016. WWE wishes Cody the best in all his future endeavors.

Original: Earlier today, Cody Rhodes announced that he had requested to be released from his contract with the WWE. Posting on his personal Twitter page, Rhodes said:

The past ten years have been quite the trek, but as of earlier today, I have asked for my release from @WWE. I’ll speak further on the matter shortly. Thank you to all the pro-wrestling/sports entertainment fans worldwide. Thank you.

For those who listen to the Out of Nowhere podcast, you will know that I believe Cody could have been WWE Champ material. His performance as Stardust has been exemplary and really took to the role but in my opinion, once you are stuck with a gimmick like this, it is very hard to shake off and I wonder if he is frustrated or disappointed in not being able to return as Cody Rhodes. Or perhaps he has lost some of the love for wrestling since his father passed away in June of last year?

We will learn the reason behind the request shortly as Rhodes posted on Twitter, but I for one would be sad to see him leave.
