Baywatch – Movie Review

Dwayne Johnson is his likeable self with great chemistry with Zac Efron

Baywatch is directed by Seth Gordon and stars Dwayne Johnson as devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchanan who butts heads with brash new recruit Matt Brody (Zac Efron) and together they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.

Dwayne Johnson is one of the hardest working people out there right now, he has so many projects going on that you can’t wrap your head around how he is doing it all, along with that he is just an awesome dude and his films are always a fun time at the cinema.

And here he is, his likeable self, with great chemistry with Zac Efron, and it is a shame that Baywatch is one of the worst movies of 2017.

Right from the beginning the movie tells you what you’re in for, and the trailers might make you think it’s going to be another 21 Jump Street, with a fun story, fun characters and a lot of great laughs, but it is far from it. All the laughs you see in the trailers are the only ones in the movie and as I’d already seen them they weren’t that funny especially putting them into context.

The villain Victoria Leeds is so over the top and laughably stupid, and she has even stupider henchmen.

All the cast look like they are high throughout the movie, you’ve got a great up and coming actress in Alexandra Daddario who is so miscast in the film.

Ronnie Greenbaum (Jon Bass) is who we’re meant to be cheering for as he is trying to ask out CJ Parker (Kelly Rohrbach) throughout the movie, but he is just the Jar Jar Binks of the film.

The CGI is borderline offensive and the directing by Seth Gordon is terrible throughout. There are so many jump cuts throughout that it made the film hard to watch sometimes.

The action is really bad here and the fighting is all over the place with a ton of jump cuts. You’ve got The Rock who used to do this for a living in the WWE and you can’t do a wide shot of him fighting at all.

I don’t know how they did it but they’ve made the TV show look better and that is not what I was looking for.

Baywatch is one of the worst movies of the year, it only has the chemistry between Johnson and Efron going for it.
